PLEASE HELP DOUG ANDERSON HEAL BLADDER CANCER.
Everybody loves Doug. He engulfs you with his enormous heart and heals you with his love. Whether it’s laughing over a beer, hanging out in a coffee shop, or sharing deep conversation and wisdom—Doug is the guy people want to be around. He will jump through hoops to support you and would generously give you the shirt off of his back. Doug has selflessly donated apheresis (platelets) at Children’s Hospital for 25 years. He loves unconditionally and doesn’t know a stranger.
Now our precious Doug needs all that love to come full circle. Doug recently received a diagnosis of a rare and aggressive bladder cancer, just days after he was laid off from his job. Healthy his entire life, this has been quite a shock to Doug and all of us who love him. The news feels like a thunderbolt, and it has jarred us into action.
COURSE OF TREATMENT: Doug is choosing alternative therapy for treatment—specifically, the Gerson therapy. He is enrolled in a 21-day program in Sedona, Arizona that began August 13th. According to the program guidelines, he will need to continue this therapy for approximately two years once he returns home.
FUNDING NEEDS: It’s time to rally around and support this amazing man who is always there to support the rest of us. We are seeking funds to cover the initial cost of the 21-day therapy, IV treatments, supplements and additional alternative therapies while in Sedona. We also need funds for the equipment for the extensive home set up, part-time in-home health care, alternative therapies, supplements and 20 pounds of organic food per day (for juicing and eating). Our intention is that the dollar goal we’ve set cover the first six months of the Gerson therapy.
SPREADING THE WORD: We are reaching out and praying that the power of the internet and social media will help him towards the enormous cost of this therapy and save one of the dearest friends we have ever known. Doug is the kind of guy who finds it difficult to ask for help; so we, his beloved friends and family, are asking for your help.
HOME HEALTH CARE: We are seeking a recommendation of someone or an organization for the home health care. Please let us know if you can assist with this referral. Also, please let us know of anyone that can volunteer one shift a month or that is willing to be trained to help out in a pinch.
AFTER THE INITIAL 21 DAY THERAPY: The program guidelines stipulate the patient needs to wait approximately nine months before trying to do much of anything other than taking care of himself so his immune system can heal. It is possible to consider going back to work part time after the nine months, depending on how he is doing. The protocol is intense and requires treatment consistently throughout the day, every day. The people who are successful on this program are the people who are committed to following it precisely. We are deeply grateful for anything you can contribute to Doug’s treatment and recovery.
