Hygiene products for girls

Donation protected
We are raising money to supply materials to sewinging groups in Bombolulu and Shauriako, both shanty villages in Kenya. This will enable them to sew reusable sanitary products to sell within their community, creating income for these men and women. At present, girls in these areas miss approximately 25% of school due to not having any sanitary products, so do not leave the hut. Their education suffers and so can their health as often due to lack of money they use undescribable items found in the village, such as corn husks and dried goat skin, which leads to crippling health issues the girls cannot afford to get treated. Along with this already heavy burden, often the psyhcological impact on these girls is immense. It is not uncommon that there is not a mother or older sibling to ask for help, advice or education, so they believe they may be HIV positive, pregnant and all sorts of old wives tales.
Once the products have been completed, we intend to purchase them and distribute to the girls in the community, along with education on what is happening to their bodies and how to care for the products so that they will last for years.
Initially we aim to raise $1500 to set the project up - purchase the materials, then will need to contiue fundraising in the future to sustain the project.
Dianne and I have spoken to many young women and they are as excited as us about the project and it beneifts within the villages.
