Hi, my name is Olivia. I just made the All-American USA cheer team as the mascot for my high school, Santa Cruz High. Please help me get to London. This is my story...
Last year, a friend let me try being the school mascot at a football game and I LOVED it! So, i tried out this year and made it. I am CARDY...the Santa Cruz High Cardinals mascot!!
That meant USA cheer camp. I knew I was going to have to work hard and maybe step out of my comfort zone. When I got there I got a little shy, but after I met a few people, it was on!
Throughout camp, all I would do was dance and make people laugh. I went to mascot classes, did improv games, and learned cheers. I was nervous about trying out for the All-American team but pushed through and did it. I didn't think I was going to get picked. On the last day of camp, I won more awards than anyone else, was chosen All-American, and here is what my instructor had to say:
"Spirit was pouring out of you...."
"We could feel your facial [expressions] through your costume as it burst through your performance."
"Clearly, you are a natural. You love being in front of a crowd and they LOVE you. Keep doing what you are doing. Who knows, it might change a life. Cardy brings joy to many!"
I was so happy! And, I found out I had a chance to go to London this year for a week and march with the other All-Americans in the New Year's Day parade. Amazing!! But...
This trip costs a lot of money. Like many people, my Mom couldn't just write a check and send it in. But, I told my story to close family and they generously donated so I was able to make the down payment ($1050). My next deposit is due October 1st, and the final amount by November 1st to get everything in on time.
The money goes to the cost of the trip, trip insurance, minimal spending money, fees and taxes, and incidentals not covered by the USA tour.
And...if I exceed my goal, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Santa Cruz High Cheerleading Team!!
