Seeing for the first time

THIS is Mr. Magoo. He is a 7 year old Dogo Argentino. We were lucky to find him at a local rescue, where it was indicated he had a mild sight 'condition' and that it wasn't severe. Though, when we got him home it was very clear that he could hardly see anything at all. He ran into everything! Once Magoo got used to the layout of our home he would only run into things that didn't have a fixed location; chairs, furniture, doors, etc..
(We are now careful not to move things around, but if we do we show him where the object is with sound, which helps him a lot, but not completely.)

We found out from his Ophthalmologist, that Mr. Magoo was born with severe cataracts; meaning that he has only ever been able to see light and dark since he was born. :( Most of the time he gets around easily enough, but he has bad days where he'll bump into doors, wall corners, and other objects that are normally familiar to him. Generally, Magoo is a very happy dude! He, like most pooches, loves to play fetch with his rattle ball, tug with sister, and snuggling . Despite his good nature, and optimistic personality, it's easy to see that he suffered from constantly squinting and straining his eyes to see. We gave him massages and do what we can to relieve some of his pain, but his relief is only temporary at best.

The great news is that there is a surgery where a doctor would replace the lens' in Magoo's eyes to correct his vision, and his vet thinks he would be a great candidate for this specialized operation. 

We were fortunate to raise enough to complete the surgery! Unfortunately though, while he was under the knife, it was found out that his little eyeballs are too small to refit new clear lenses. His Dr. ended up removing the cloudy lenses and leaving him.... lens-less!
This means that when he sees everything is upside down! Woah! But his brain automatically adjusts so it seems normal for him after a few days of adjustment. He will need to be on expensive steroid eye drops for the rest of his life to keep any internal eye pressure in check. Things aren’t perfect and are still a bit blurry but he can definitely see much better and can even catch a ball!
