Stay Strong Maggie

Hello everyone! My name is Maggie Payne, I am 20 years old and became very ill about a year ago. Going from hospital to hospital, specialist to specialist, I went misdiagnosed for seven months. After seven long months of wondering, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease along with two other co-infections, bartonella and babesia (also associated with Lyme). This disease has done damage neurologically and physically; my brain functions are very slow and my vision has been affected. Walking is very difficult; all my muscles ache and my entire body is constantly in pain. Some days are better than others, however, I still struggle in getting relief for my pain. This has forced me to have to take numerous amounts of medications: antibiotics, narcotics, anti-anxiety, vitamins/minerals, etc. As of right now my fight against Lyme disease has resulted in my inability to work, go to school, drive, play basketball, and just live a normal life.
As this year passed my medical bills reached numbers that my parents could not handle. They continue to rise with ongoing treatment as a result of Lyme disease not being recognized as a medical condition (meaning little insurance help). With much of my care needing to be paid for out of pocket, I have significantly fallen behind. My family continues to work hard to help me, doing anything and everything to get me better, however, they can only do so much with me being one of seven children.
I have started my new journey today at the Hansa Clinic located in Wichita, Kansas for the next two weeks, a place that is especially known for helping people with Lyme.
