Miss Indy passed away today, I posed a long update about this later on this page. Thank you again to everyone involved in her care and rescure this last month. I've updated the goal on this page to reflect all her final vet bills, including her cremation. Thank you everyone for making it possible for us to give her over a month of care and love.

On Monday August 11th, I found this cat sitting on the sidewalk on my block. She was wearing a flea collar so I almost passed her by, until I noticed her front leg had been shaved, as if she'd recently had a catheter. I stopped and gave her a scratch on the ears, and was horrified to feel she was emaciated, dehydrated and loaded with fleas.
I rushed her to Tree House Humane Society to get her scanned for a microchip, no luck. Tree House's vet was able to examine her the next day and treated her fleas, but discovered she was jaundiced, which is evidence of liver failure.
I was able to transfer her to HEAL Veterinary Clinic for an ultrasound and hospitalization when we realized her jaundice was getting worse each day, and her appetite was failing.
The ultrasound revealed her liver was greatly enlarged and abnormally shaped. The vet said this indicated she most likely either has a terrible infection or cancer. The current theory regarding her mysterious catheter shaved-leg (and we subsequently discovered her belly was shaved as well) is that her previous caregivers probably got this same diagnosis from their vet, and instead of caring for her, abandoned her on the street to die, out of sight.
Miss Indy is an affectionate, older Tortoiseshell cat who found her self alone and starving on the street after clearly living a life of a housecat. I don't know how much longer she has, but I will not let her spend another minute cast aside. I can't do it alone, the costs are climbing with every day she's hospitalized. Please help us out!
