I've been going back and forth deciding whether to set up this page for my parents. It's a pride thing I guess. However, the clean up was the easiest part (and it wasn't easy). Now we are at the point that finances come into play (waiting on "city financial help" isn't an option). Since the water level in my parents house literally reached the basement ceiling and beyond, it came into the upstairs by an estimated 2-4 inches, ruining a lot upstairs. We are making it "livable" with what they/we have financially, but I would like them to be a bit more comfortable, getting the house back to "normal" as close as possible. Here is what needs to be done:
*** carpeting in the livingroom for sure (they were going to have the hallway and bedroom carpets cleaned and sanitized from us walking back and forth with sewage sludge, but I'd like to see it replaced if we can fund it)
*** washer and dryer (we tried to fix it, but realized that it was beyond repair)
*** pay for the company for the pump out of 8+ feet of water (a company did this thinking the insurance would pay for it, and that didn't happen)
*** duct work PROFESSIONALLY cleaned inside (we did what we could with the tools that we had)
*** I would actually like to get them a new living room couch, loveseat, and chair although, I've been told, that it is "not necessary" because the furniture had legs and the water didn't get to the point where water soaked in to the furniture material, but personally, I wouldn't want to chance it for health reasons (we will clean it the best we can).
So there it is. After kicking around the idea of posting this, I've come to the realization that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission! I know tens of thousands of people are in the same boat (pun intended) as my parents and any additional funds past what my parents need will be paid forward to someone else who needs it (my parents have neighbors that I have in mind to give any extra funds to that are available).
