Hello Osprey Lovers, I think it's about time we start a Go-Fund Me page for our most devoted & knowledgeable Osprey monitor. Vanessa has been studying the Ospreys in the metro area diligently for many years, sharing photos, observations, and explaining behaviors for us via her Facebook page and blog, all at her own cost. She receives no regular funding beyond occasional donations from the public. After following her page for years I thought about the financial sacrifices she has made to do this...the gas and car maintenance driving to all of these nests must be immense and I hope we can show her just how much we appreciate her efforts. Recently, the eye-piece on her scope broke which is her life-line for viewing these nests and identifying all the Osprey with bands. She will need to at least replace the eyepiece on the scope. I thought this was an opportune time to pay something back, and help her get back to work, monitoring all these nests...will you join me? Vanessa was very hesitant on me starting this Go Fund Me page for her cause - let's show her our support and help her to continue with this wonderful research she has contributed throughout the years. Thank you!! Cathy Below is a bio Vanessa wrote on her passion...Osprey. Vanessa I started the Twin Cities Metro Osprey Watch program in 2008 after 15 years of working on the Twin Cites Osprey Reintroduction. I am monitoring all nests in the metro area, training and supervising volunteers who assist with this fieldwork and writing annual reports documenting data collected. We are looking at a variety of areas of research including an accurate productivity study, investigating behaviors such as extra pair copulation and mate fidelity, recruitment of young birds into the breeding population, establishment of new territories, age of first breeding, longevity of pair bonds, movement between nesting territories, etc. I have received no financial support, other than donations from supporters of the project, and am driven by passion and a commitment to the wellbeing and survival of this species of Raptor. I always need help, so contact me if you would like to become involved with the monitoring or have questions about Ospreys. You can follow Vanessa on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Twin-Cities-Metro-Osprey-Watch-218968924786696/ Or her Osprey bog at http://ospreywatch.blogspot.com/
