Turn Up For Teeth

On January 15, 2014 my sister Kathryn became a victim of black ice. She was on her way to work at 5am when she hit a patch of black ice causing the car to spin out of control. The car swerved off the road, hit a telephone pole and flipped. Thankfully, she is alive because she was wearing her seatbelt. Unfortunately, as she was hanging upside down she could see a few cars on the road driving past her but it was so dark they could not see her. She managed to unbuckle her seatbelt and find her phone to call for help. As you can see in the picture the car was totaled and my sister escaped with "just" a cut on her arm and some missing teeth. Visiting the dentist and an all liquid diet were her life for a few weeks. And then the bills start pouring in... the typical ambulance ride, dentist visits, a new telephone poll, etc. She has been able to have her top tooth fixed but is still missing the bottom 3. She was upset when the dentist told her it would be a three month wait in order to replace those. And then even worse news came, although she works a full time job and has insurance, new teeth are considered cosmetic and will not be covered. Then she finds out the dentist requires the money up front before he will do the procedure. The cost of one tooth is $2,000......yup. that is not a joke. it's real life. Insane. She obviously had to get a new car after the accident and still has all of her regular bills to pay so saving for new teeth is difficult. Kathryn or Queen as my three children call her, has been able to find humor in this situation making jokes at her own expense. Like when she tweeted this "Decided to update my eharmony interests because of my current situation- listed my favorite things as soft foods and fixodent". Kathryn has been a huge help to me and many other people her birthday is August 29th and I am hoping that all of her friends and family will join together and help her cover the cost of getting her smile back. People always say that beauty is what's on the inside not the outside but I think having all of her teeth might greatly increase her chances of landing a man ;)
