Rutgers Community's Response to Providing Emergency Medical Assistance To Fight Ebola in West Africa- Starting in Liberia
Rutgers has a long historical connection to Liberia, including working closely with the University of Liberia and Cuttington University. The ongoing outbreak of the Ebola virus in Liberia has prompted Rutgers to establish an Emergency Action Committee to assist its partnering Liberian institutions to combat this growing threat to the security and health of the people of Liberia.
Rutgers University Community will provide support for hospitals and healthcare workers currently combating the Ebola epidemic within the country of Liberia. Rutgers will focus its efforts by providing logistical support and in providing needed medical supplies for the JFK hospital and teaching clinic of the University of Liberia, the Phoebe Hospital and the Agave Health Clinic at Cuttington University.
Mission Statement:
Provide a coordinated and timely support for the University of Liberia, Cuttington University, JFK hospital and Phoebe Hospital. The scope of this support will be in funding the cost and shipment of specific requested medical supplies from the previously mentions institutions.
This support will include, collections of requested medical equipment and supplies, planning and coordination to ensure the timely delivery of the aforementioned items, and fundraising to support the missions objectives.
Mission Objectives:
1) Coordinate the collection and movement supplies and equipment as needed and requested by the University of Liberia relating to the ongoing Ebola epidemic.
2) Provided sustainable and adequate funding for the cooperating institutions.
3) Develop a sustainable training and response partnership for health care workers and medical staff involved in treatment of infectious diseases.
