Living with Colon Cancer

Donation protected
Vince Candelore was diagnosed with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer in September of 2012. Within the first year of his diagnosis, he went through chemotherapy treatments bi-weekly for a few months before undergoing a major 8-hour long surgery in March 2013 which removed 15 inches of his colon and 25% of his liver. The surgery was a success and the few chemo treatments that followed put an end to what we can say was the first step to defeating this disease.

He was told by doctors that his cancer was in remission but not to be surprised if it were to come back. They assured him that if/when it did, they had a plan and would be on top of it with the necessary treatments to help him become cancer free.

(After surgery, his goal was to have his "toes in the sand" at Ocean City Maryland on the Fourth of July with his family, enjoying the fireworks like he has done for the past 22 years. He is a man of his word as you can see in the picture above).

After the beach, 3 months had passed and when returning to the doctors for his check-up, the doctors told him devastating news..that his cancer has returned. The doctors were ready to take action. He went through 22 more weeks of chemo and was CANCER FREE in January 2014.

Routine check-ups followed, and in April 2014 IT WAS BACK! Vince went through another 12 weeks of chemo trying to attack this disease again.

In August 2014 he received the news that his body has become immune to the chemo which forced them to pause treatment (with at least 15 tumors still active inside of him). His last hope is that recent tests/scans show that he qualifies for a clinical trial that will help him defeat this disease once and for all! The results of these tests/scans can take 2-8 weeks.

As you can imagine, this disease has rocked his world, forcing him to be unable to work for the past 2 years. Vince was the main source of income in his family of four. Now, his wife works extra hard and his son chose to wrap up his schooling before planned to be able to work full time to help support the family. His daughter is in her senior year of high school with plans to attend a 4-year college. With all of this being said, the financial strain that has been put on this family has been devastating.

After he wins this battle, his dreams are to resume work and become the breadwinner of the house again, to watch his daughter become a college graduate (& someday walk her down the aisle), to watch his son continue to excel in the art world, and to return to his "normal" family life with his beautiful wife who has been right by his side through it all. His favorite hobby is playing his guitar and he cannot wait to start playing shows with his long-time friends who he has played music with since highschool.

If you would be willing to donate any amount of money, PLEASE do so to help this family in their desperate time of need. Vince is truly an inspiration and has given so much to others that my only wish is for others to give back to him.
