D. A. D. (Diabetic Alert Dog)

We are writing this on behalf of our family. We are starting this fundraiser to help achieve our goal of being able to buy our dad, Rod Smith, a diabetic service dog. On March 25, 2014, our dad was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Over the last 4 years, we have tried numerous ways to control our dad’s blood sugar. With numerous medications, a continuous glucose monitor, around 6+ insulin shots per day, and even an insulin pump, nothing has worked. On August 9th of this year, our dad was involved in a car wreck due to his blood sugar rapidly dropping, leaving him unconscious behind the wheel. By God’s grace, our dad left the wreck with only a minor concussion and a fractured ankle and foot, in which he is still recovering from as of now. Even after visiting numerous doctors and specialists all across Ohio, we are left at a place where we have made the decision to do whatever we can to help our dad receive his service dog. It may be high in price, but we believe we cannot put a price tag on his life. We are reaching out to anyone and everyone who would like to donate to help our family achieve this goal. Any amount is a blessing, and we are thankful for whatever you can do to help. To let all of you know, we will be doing other fundraisers in the future such as mini photo shoot sessions, a dedicated walk for this cause, and other things of that nature. We realize money can be tight, and if you are unable to give monetarily, we ask that you could pray for our family and our mission to reach this goal.
