As many of you know, I will be graduating from nursing school in December. Recently, as part of my schoolwork, I have been involved in working with the homeless in the streets of Portland and been exposed to the needs of the underprivileged both in the Portland area and worldwide. In December, a group of fellow students and I will be traveling abroad to work on a mission trip to Creel, Mexico. During this trip we will be providing medical assistance to those in need.
One of the groups we will be serving are the Tarahumara Indians who still live in caves up in the mountains surrounding Creel, and are in constant threat of starvation, cold, tuberculosis and dehydration. We will be working with a medical clinic inside the country dealing with the Issues of poverty, malnutrition, substance abuse, and alcoholism. The mountain people currently suffer from upper respiratory infections, impetigo, lice, tooth decay, and conjunctivitis. We will expect to serve approximately 100-300 people on a daily basis to provide them with medical attention, food, and clothing.
Global health care has become an interest of mine and something I would love to take part in. With your help we can make a difference in the global community.
Unfortunately being a nursing student means living on a fixed income with increased expenses. In order to make this trip possible, I need to raise $2000.00. All donations will go directly to the mission trip expenses: airfare, lodging, transportation, and supplies. I have some money saved, but need your help to make this trip a reality.
