Medical and living expenses

Hello everyone and thank you for your time in reading this.  It is difficult for me to ask for assistance for many things but I am at a point where I am in need and there are so many that have already offered support in different ways. I thank all of those that have been so kind and open.  The prayer lists are numerous and are felt each minute.

I was diagnosed with Bone Marrow Cancer (MDS) in August of 2013.  Within a few weeks I was on chemo to attempt to halt the progress while arrangements were made for a bone marrow transplant.  By March of 2014 I had a donor (family member) and all medical testing had been performed. I was admitted to the MCV Massey Cancer Center in March.

The transplant went well and I was actuall released as an outpatient for a few weeks with the thoughts of returning home for short periods. Then I developed Graft Verses Host Disease (GVHD) of my GI tract. That put me back into the hospital for nearly a month.  As that was being treated, I developed something called BK virus.  Just an additional complication that is sometimes a risk with this treatment.

Heartbreaking information was given to us on Monday, August 11, when we learned the cancer had returned to my bone marrow. The BMT specialists at the cancer center have chosen a specialized treatment method that may extend my life. Regardless, I'm going into this with the same positive attitude that I started one year ago at the diagnosis and I stay determined.

The support that I really need now is with my expences of staying near the hospital and a round-the-clock caregiver and . This is a requirement of the doctors based on mortality rates. As you can imagine, the expenses of staying away from home are adding up as I am focusing on my health first.  Up to this point I have incured nearly $48,000 in debt since the diagnosis. A debt that will continue to grow as expenses are incurred until my body acts positively towards this treatment. I am humbly reaching out for assistance in covering these expenses so that I may continue to receive what will, hopefully be life-saving treatment.  My goal of returning home one day as a survivor is my hearts desire.
