Operation BFA (Dance edition)

In the wise words of Kendrick Lamar, "A dollar might turn to a million and we all rich."

Unfortunately, in the event that my dollar does not do that, I am still falling short to meet my tuition at California Institute of the Arts this fall. As many of you know, it has been a very rocky ride and I have come a very long way on my road to tuition. Any little bit you could do to help me get the rest of the way would be extremely appreciated and repaid in many a hug <3

For those of you who do not know me so well....

I cannot say that I deserve financial assistance more than anyone else attempting to fund their education, but I can say that I have no uncertainties about what I’m trying to do or why I need this money, and that certainty is not something many are lucky to have. I have wanted to be a dancer since I was 3 years old, performing personally choreographed solos to the beautiful music of the Spice Girls under the spotlights in my grandparent’s living room. I have been working to get where I am ever since. I have many other interests and passions, but over the years my love for dance has never lessened. My father’s work caused my family to travel every 4-6 months, but no matter where we ended up I always found a studio and was able to fit myself into an unfamiliar crowd and continue to expand my love for art and culture through movement. I am 100% confident that dance is what I want to do for the rest of my life and that completing college is a neccessary step on that journey. To my delighted surprise I was accepted to attend my top choice of programs, The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at California Institute of the Arts in 2013.

A little about the program:

After completing my first year, a year filled with growth and eye opening experiences, I was forced to face that I had not been able to acquire any more government aid and was maxed out on loans. This meant I most likely would be unable to return for the following year. I brought this issue to the faculty of my school, and after a lot searching and a very stressful and unsure summer, they informed me that they were able to come up with a significantly larger scholarship for me in the hope that I would be able to continue to pursue my BFA at CalArts.

Unfortunately, even with the scholarship, I am still responsible for another $17,000 (for this year alone) as well as rent and other living expenses. I am paying for school without any financial assistance from my parents or other family members (although they are all wonderful and have provided stupendous moral support) and after having already taken out as much (probably more) as I can handle in private loans to pay for my first year, and working as many jobs as I have hours availble, I will not be able to return to school without a little extra assistance. I have paid for the first half of the year, and have until December to somehow come up with another $6,000.

I have come a very long way and am so close!!! Any amount you could spare would help get me one step closer to a goal nearly 17 years in the making and would be extremely appreciated!

All the love,

Hanna
