Arielle Talcelia Blackman, Ari, was a blessing from God. Whilst Rhonda, Ari's mom, was pregnant, we learned that Ari had a rare genetic disorder, trisomy 18. The doctors told us that Ari would likely not survive birth or die within days of being born. Her parents, family and friends believed otherwise. Thankfully, the doctors were wrong and we were right. On February 4, 2014, Ari was born and in an instant she became the world to her parents. Her birth weight was a mere 1 lb and 13 ounces. She weighed less than two bottles of soda from a vending machine.

Daily, she surprised her doctors and nurses because of her tenacity. As she gained weight, she became stronger and stronger. For example, she frequently swatted away or kicked the hands of those who wanted to change her diaper or interrupt her sleep. She was a fighter and we loved her for it.

On July 11, 2014, early in the morning, she passed away. Her passing was heartbreaking because we, Ari's parents, were hoping that she would be soon discharged from the hopital and come home. Although she never made it to our earthly home, we look forward to sharing a better home with her one day. If, but only for a moment in time, she impacted the lives of thousands during her short stay on earth.

Although we miss her, we know that her life and death can still bring joy to others. The purpose of this fund is to support trisomy 18 research and to provide grants to parents with trisomy 18 children. Research is undersupported due to insufficient financial resources and many parents are unable to afford the costs associated with taking care of children with Trisomy 18. Join us in making this world a better place for all.
