My mother, Patricia Pettyjohn has been diagnosed with cancer 4 times over the past 7 years.
Mom is a 7 year breast cancer survivor. In 2016 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and a second bladder cancer diagnosis earlier this year. During the treatment of the bladder cancer she was diagnosed with an aggressive and fast-growing lymphoma in May. She has endured a strong chemo regiment, radiation and was preparing for a bone marrow transplant at Duke Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Center.
On November 15th we received the devastating news that the cancer is in her bone marrow. The doctor has diagnosed the cancer as terminal but we still believe God can perform a miracle.
She’s been married to the love of her life David for 49 years and has 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, 1 son-in-law, 9 siblings, other family and friends that love and need her in our lives as long as possible.
Over the past 6 months we have made hundreds of trips to doctor’s appointments, hospital visits and trips to the Duke University Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic. The financial cost of her condition has been a burden on all of us that have been involved in her care and treatment. Thankfully family and friends have helped when they can, but we need more financial help.
I have exhausted all my vacation at work going with my mom going to doctor’s appointments. I’ve also depleted my financial reserves with the FMLA time I’ve taken since it is unpaid leave. I’m now on continuous unpaid leave to take care of my mother.
My goal is to raise enough funds so that the financial needs are met for my parents and me over the next several months and to recover some of the expenses we have incurred.
God has already showed his favor during this very challenging time in our lives. Although this has been a tough season we know God is in control. We know the love and grace of God and the power of prayer. It would be a blessing to us if you can spread the message to your family and friends.
