Cynthia For Miss New York USA 2018

Hello and Welcome!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Cynthia Hilton. I have lived here in NYC for a little over 2 years and love it here! I am originally from Los Angeles, CA but moved to Massachusetts for school. I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Science and I hope to pursue my dream of becoming a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.

When I was a young girl, I would receive pageant pamphlets in the mail and gawk at the pretty girls around my age, wishing I could be one of them. Unfortunately, I was never able to have the opportunity to  apply or participate and I never thought I would have the chance to do so ever again.

A couple weeks ago, I was scrolling through Instagram and I happened to see a post about Miss New York USA and to my surprise the pageant was for women around my age. My previous thinking thought pageantry ended at 18 years old. I ended up applying on a whim, never thinking they would even see my application but I was shocked once again when they called me a couple days later asking for a phone interview. The next day after the interview, I had found I had been accepted to participate as an Official Contestant! This still does not seem real to me at all. Somebody pinch me please!

Being able to participate in this pageant is important to me. It's more than the hair, makeup and pretty outfits. Having been accepted has been a wake up call for me socially, mentally and physically. I had been a rut for a while where I wasn't very social or active. I found myself in a vicious cycle of work, eat and sleep only to have the same monotonous day over and over again. This created a huge toll on me. If I do win, I hope to be able to advocate and find assistance for survivors of sexual assault.

Immediately upon my acceptance, I signed myself up for a gym membership and have consistently been working out 4-6 days a week since. The gym membership is expensive but it guarantees that I will continue to get in shape. I have found that I am becoming more social and instead of wanting to stay home and sleep, I am exploring the city more and hanging out with friends.

I am realistic about myself and I know that there is no guarantee that I will even win this pageant but I do want to give it my best shot. And with every opportunity there is a cost...
So, like I said before, I never even thought that my application would be looked at nonetheless be accepted. And so with less than 3 months to go, I am quite behind in preparation for this pageant. I have turned to using gofundme in hopes of being able to meet the pageant deadlines of fees that I owe as well as some money for all the other needs this pageant requires. I will need to have everything sorted out by the 1st of January 2018. The pageant takes place January 12-14.

If you find it in your heart to help, I would be forever grateful. So far, I've had a couple sponsors which is amazing! Being a sponsor does provide you some benefit. First, it is tax-deductible and second you and/or your business will be listed in the Official Pageant Book.

I also thought it would be best to give a break down of the costs related to the pageant and why I have asked for the amount above.
