Sadly 4 days after making this our beautiful mum and nan passed away.
Myself and aunt are taking part in a Skydive in May for the Alzheimer's society charity.
This is something very close to mine and my families heart as my grandmother is suffering and is in the last stages of Alzheimer's which is called sun-downing. My nan has had Alzheimer's since she was 66 years of age, she is now 74, a very long hard draining 8 years. My nan was mentally stolen from myself and my family many years ago. With what I have witnessed and experienced first handed I can honestly say this is one of the most cruellest diseases ever, my heart aches for who my nan used to be. Not only does Alzheimer's strip you of your identity, who yourself and your family members are and what you stood for, it also takes its toll on the people who are witnessing this disease deteriorate a person in front of their eyes that was once so dignified, respectful and so so happy. A proper lady. As a family to go through this like many of youse that have experienced it or are experiencing it. It genuinely is heart breaking. I often hope and pray that eventually we will live in a world without this cruel disease. Any money that is donated however big or small will make a difference. Lets stand together to try and make THAT difference. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
" There are currently around 850,000 people with dementia in the UK. It is projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040.
209,600 will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes.
1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia.
70 per cent of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems. There are over 42,000 people under 65 with dementia in the UK"
God bless. X
