Logan’s Fight

Donation protected

Logan was diagnosed with HR B-ALL (high-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) on July 24.

While at his great-grandma’s birthday party early that month, Logan came down with a fever and flu-like symptoms. His family was getting ready to go on their summer camping trip but when Logan wasn’t getting any better, his parents Mike and Lindsay headed for their family doctor. From there, they were sent to Guelph General Hospital where doctors broke the news that their vivacious little boy most likely had leukaemia.

Transportation via ambulance to McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton followed shortly after, where Logan received an official diagnosis. HR B-ALL is the most common and most treatable type of childhood leukaemia with an 85% remission rate.

After three weeks in the hospital and his first month of induction chemotherapy and many blood transfusions behind him, we are thrilled to say that Logan is in remission as of Aug. 30.

This is fantastic news but the road ahead is long. Due to the characteristics of this type of cancer, treatments will continue for the next three years with annual check-ups for the rest of his life. Logan is currently receiving daily chemotherapy, which will eventually be lowered to weekly and then monthly treatments. Some treatments can be done at home but most are administered at McMaster’s Children’s Hospital.

Logan is not able to be in most public places, including his school, for the next six months due to the intensity of the treatments and his low immunity levels. If he gets a fever, he will be admitted to McMaster until he is fever-free for 48 hours and Mike or Lindsay must be with him at all times while in hospital. This means time away from work and Logan’s big brother, Blake.

At times, Logan is frustrated, tired and sad, and doesn’t understand why this is happening to him – and rightfully so. Kids shouldn’t have to deal with cancer. No one should.

Help us support this brave, happy, funny, smiley and easy-going little boy and his family on their journey to kick cancer to the curb!
