Cycling for children's education in Mozambique.
Hello friends,
My name is Sergio and I'm an IT consultant working for Cisco Systems. But none of that is important at all.
I've challenged myself to ride the Caminho de Santiago de Compostela (Way of St. James of Compostela) on my bicycle from the 7th through the 10th of October. But that is not relevant either.
What really matters is the Santiago way of helping others. And this is what I'm asking from you today.
For the last 3 years I've been sponsoring ( being kind of a "remote godfather") the education of a young boy in the North of Mozambique.
Do you know how much is needed to cover 1 year of his education? Well ... only 100€.
Then I thought, "ahum ... maybe my friends across the globe would be proud of sponsoring another kid's education". Or, maybe they want to come together as a group and sponsor 5. Hence, my fundraiser target of 500€.
We can't help the whole world, but if we help 5 young children get their education ... its a first great step. Isn't it?
The congregation of "Irmãs de São João Baptista e de Maria Rainha " has been helping communities in many different locations. Their mission in Nampula, Mozambique has been helping the locals for many years. Their support is not just on education, but also on healthcare, feeding, housing, etc.
My challenge to you comes in 2 different flavors:
a) join me donating to this fundraiser and lets support the education of another 5 children together (open to anyone in the world)
--------- OR ---------
b) contact the mission directly and sponsor one of the children on your own, or donate for other needs (medicine, food, etc)
(note: the mission only has flyers in Portuguese, which I'm sharing here for your convenience. Just print and follow instructions)
As my commitment to you, I will:
a) share some photos along the way to Santiago de Compostela (not interesting ... I know)
b) fund an extra 50€ as soon as we reach 450€.
c) share the proof of transfer to the mission's bank account
d) keep you in the loop for any updates received from the mission regarding our godchildren
e) ask the mission to share a picture of our godchildren so that you get to know who you are helping.
In the fortunate case that we raise more than 500€, I'll ask the mission to use those extra funds to help others in need with food or medicine. I hope this is fair to you as well.
I'll keep the fundraiser open until November 2021.
Thank you all in advance!
