Kalag Dzonot is a cenote that gives access to the caves connected to the K'oox Baal Cave System, currently the third largest underwater cave system in the world.
The mapping project began in 2019, and I immediately decided to divide the project into three maps representing the three main directions of the underground passages.
The first map, to the North-West, required 45 dives, was published in 2021, and received a Merit Award at the Cartographic Salon of National Speleological Society (United States).
The second map, to the East, required 50 dives and was published in 2023.
I am currently working on the third sector, to the South-West, and I estimate it will require a similar number of dives as the previous ones. However, now, in addition to the costs of transportation, tank refills, and various equipment, due to a decision made by the cenote land owner, I also have to pay for access, which increases the project cost.
The fundraiser is specifically dedicated to covering the cost of access to the site, currently around 18USD per dive.
Donors who request will receive a scan of a survey taken in the cave, before digitization, as a token of gratitude.
Thanks
