Heading to Nationals

Hello everyone, my name is Desna Marie Johnson and I was recently crowned National American Miss 2014 for the great state of Maryland. I will be heading to Nationals this November in California to compete for the National Title.  I have been a part of this great organization since the age of 13 and it has helped me become the young lady that I am today. You see, it is my ambition to become a grief counselor for children. Who could ever imagine losing a mother, baby brother and grandmother at the age of eight, that is what happend to me during a tragic accident in which I was the only survivor.  With the help of the Children's Bereavement Center of Miami Florida I realized GOD's plan for me. Competing in National American Miss allows me the opportunity to win scholarship money that would help futher my education. By becoming a grief counselor, I strive to help others such as myself survive the devastation of losing a loved one.
