Michael Brown, an 18 year old college bound student was violently gunned down in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9, 2014. Since his murder by a police officer Darren Wilson, St. Louis has erupted in protests and engaged the attention of the nation through social media coverage. Twitter users demonstrated their disgust with media portrayal of African-American victims through hashtag activism using: #IfTheyGunnedMeDown. It has been over 50 days since Michael Brown's murder and Darren Wilson is still a free and protected man.
Thank you to all that have donated to get me to Ferguson, MO. I arrived August 18 and spoke as a panelist with Missouri NAACP Youth and College Division at Harris Stowe State University. The reception of our words was amazing and incited the need for action here in Ferguson, MO. I departed on September 12th after spending weeks in St. Louis organizing, protesting and mobilizing.
Since my first visit I helped build the foundation of our grassroots organization, Millennial Activists United. Our purpose is to improve conditions of the neighborhoods of ST Louis, and contribute to building the larger grass movement needed for fundamental change through community outreach, civic engagement, direct action and policy campaign.
Prior to our organization we have educated the citizens of Ferguson on their political rights when dealing with police confrontation and setup a medical triage in central protesting areas to tend to the injured. Any peaceful protestors that are arrested for non-violent charges will be bailed out with raised funds as well. All members of MAU in St. Louis have been arrested during protests numerous times even after promises of the liberty to protest without the threat or consequence of arrest.
Your donation will fund supplies (food and medical) for peaceful protestors and organizers, the transportation,lodging and meals of myself and those volunteering to organize and protest in Ferguson, MO.
Anything that you can donate is greatly appreciated as myself and a few peers seek to raise $3000.00 for supplies, lodging, potential bail money,transportation and meals.
