Kyle’s Medical Expenses

I originally injured my back when I was playing football for USC in 2002 causing me to have my 1st back surgery at 22 years old. The surgery coming up on March 2nd will be my  8th back surgery, and my 14th surgery over all. 

At the beginning of January I injured my back again when I picked up a case of water from the grocery store. I dropped straight to the ground. I have very limited mobility using a cane to walk with, and can only stand for 5-10 minutes max. I have had to go buy a stool to sit in front of the sink just to be able to brush my teeth, and have had to buy a shower chair for the same reason. The pain that radiates through my left hip and left leg is excruciating. I have to take breaks while I get dressed. After seeing a neurosurgeon and going through a few tests I am having discectomy at the L4-L5 levels, and during the surgery they are going to remove my spinal cord stimulator so I can have normal (and less expensive) MRI's going forward.

For the past year and a half I have been seeing a traumatic brain injury doctor for symptoms of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephelopothy). CTE is a degenerative brain disease that scientists believe stems from repeated blows to the head (football). My symptoms at this stage include memory loss, word dissociation, problems with focus, depression, anxiety, and a number of other issues related to brain function. There is no test for CTE, and there is no cure. I'm working with the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic at CMC Main to keep my mind working as best it can as long as it can.

Since 2015 I have accrued substantial medical debt, and there likely is more to come. I’m trying  to keep my mind and body together for as long as possible. I have no clue where else to turn so every little bit will help. Thank you in advance.
