Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund for Mark and Phyllis Chaney
In May 2016 my parents Mark and Phyllis Chaney experienced what most would consider a 100 year flood. We watched helplessly as flood waters from the Brazos River engulfed our entire home, taking with it everything we held dear. As the waters receded and the family began to salvage all that was left we thanked God for our lives and began to rebuild from the ground up.
For six months my parents lived in a camper trailer as they worked tirelessly to regain normalcy. Not once did they crumble under stress but instead remained positive and optimistic about the future. Things began to look up when they were able to move into the house. Although not 100% complete it started to feel like home again.
Eight months later as news stations broadcasted the impending devastations of Hurricane Harvey that once helpless feeling began to set in. Hurricane Harvey took from my parents everything they worked so hard to regain. My parents are the most resilient, hardworking and loving individuals I know. They would give the shirt off their back and the last dime in their pocket if it meant helping someone in need.
One thing that my parents taught me is when faced with adversity you thank God for your blessing, pick yourself up from your boot straps and move forward. I want to be able to help my parents in any way possible. I am calling all friends and family to send prayers, any monetary help or a simple text to let them know that you are thinking of them during this trying time.
