As a parent you never want to see your child go through any type of pain and not not be able to help. And this exactly what has been going on for 2years now. Our wonderful, smart, athletic son went from being active to his body completely breaking down. It all Started with a viral infection which in turn lead to much more serious issues.
At one point last year Samori spent time in Canada at SICKKIDS Hospital. We left there thinking everything was fine. Testing showed everything was good. That was Dec. 2019 fast forward to Feb. as he started to complain of eyes hurting, his eyes were swollen more each day and his eyesight was decreasing rapidly.
A visit to the Ophthalmologist revealed Uveitis, inflammation that was traveling to his retina. Just when the lockdowns started! Imagine your going through Covid, country on lock down and every week having to go to appointments to the Doctor.. Only for him to tell you the symptoms are getting worse, he has to leave to go back home to his family in India and you have to find a specialist ASAP!!
Now we are here and what was supposed to be a routine outpatient procedure turned into 12 days in hospital and 9 IV’s !! After many tests and procedures, Samori has recently being diagnosed with a life changing disease. As we try to adjust to this life altering new reality, we have been faced with some challenges.
Given Samori’s health, We are still In Miami seeking medical care, almost 3 months since we left home. He hasn’t responded well to treatment of late and we are hopeful that the recommended changes will have a positive effect.
With the length of time we have been here, bills are starting to pile up, both here and at home. I’m sure you can imagine, there have been many sleepless nights, as we frustratingly plan our next step forward.
We are now faced with the prospect of being here for at least another two months. With the cost of being here increasing daily, we need help for things like meal replacements which for 90% of Samori new diet, medicine, co-pay is $1,100 every two weeks, etc.
For two years Samori has had to endure this without knowing what was causing his pain and health complications and now we finally have an answer.
Hopefully with your help we will be able to make the transition to sustained health.
