Brock's Motorcycle Injuries

Donation protected

This is the story of my friend Bobby Brock:

Brock worked in physical labor, was a black belt in karate, and led a very active lifestyle before his tragic accident, May 25, 2013, the night before his 31st birthday.

On a birthday date with a friend, Brock was travelling 40mph on his motorcycle and was cut off by a car u-turning in front of him. Brock and his passenger both struck the back of car, and Brock suffered severe internal injuries when he tried to shield his passenger with his body as they were thrown from the vehicles. They were both wearing helmets.

Brock was not drinking and does not do illicit drugs. His blood alcohol level was .0002 (which is lower than someone who has eaten sugar). His passenger has recovered, but a year after the accident, Brock is still disabled.

Brock’s internal injuries are too numerous to list, but suffice it to say he broke almost every bone in his body, and most of his intestines ruptured, making it very difficult to digest food and to get enough nutrition to stay alive. Brock was in a coma in ICU for 5 weeks and in the hospital 3 months, with medical costs climbing to $1.4 million. He has been in and out of the hospital over the last year, and is having his 38th surgery Aug 2014 with more surgeries still to come.

This was before Obamacare, and Brock was refused state Medicaid due to his PRIOR yearly income. When Obamacare came out, they refused him, saying he qualified for state Medicaid. After a year (a year of no income), he finally received Medicaid coverage, and a small settlement. But a year’s worth of emergency bills remain. The hospital and most of his doctors have written off substantial portions of their bills, leaving him approximately $110,000 to pay off.

Brock has been out of work and in therapy for over a year. He’s unable to continue working in the labor industry. Rather than give up, he has gone back to college to finish a degree in Psychology and hopes to become a psychologist someday.

All proceeds will be applied to Brock’s doctor and hospital bills and to his living expenses while in school. Thank you for your generous help.
