At age 33, my sister was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma stage 3 breast cancer. The fight for her life began with 8 rounds of chemotherapy,2 blood transfusions, a mastectomy:-( following 6 weeks of radiation. Today she continues her struggles to fight against this disease that has robbed her self-esteem and left her physically and emotionally scarred. You see over the years my sister has suffered many hardships from losing her home, infidelity, divorce, and living with lymphedema. Because of the unexpected hardships following her breast cancer she has been unable to have her reconstructive surgery.
Approximately 6months ago my sister gained the strength and courage to begin the fight against the fight again. She worked at healing emotionally, fighting her fears and finally! she scheduled to have her reconstructive surgery. Two weeks prior to her surgery she lost her job, and her medical benefits. My sister is a single mom with three kids and she is unable to afford Cobra and the expenses that follow.
As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the pain but I can't begin to phantom the reflection of pain her soul endures,and the awful feeling of defeat when she looks in the mirror. I am asking for your support to help my sister gain back what cancer has taken: her ability to feel physically complete, her confidence and importantly the ability to feel emotionally free from a recurrence.
