Africa Peer Leaders Program

Christel House Academy South has 6 Juniors and Seniors participating in a very unique opportunity! These students have applied and been selected to participate in the Peer Leaders for AIDS-Free Africa and America program (PLAAFA), a collaborative program of Saving Orphans through Healthcare and Outreach. By participating in PLAAFA, our students have made a commitment to educating their African and American peers on HIV and STI prevention methods.

The money needed for these PLAAFA students will help fund a 2-week trip to Swaziland, South Africa, November 2nd-16th, 2014. Swaziland has the highest prevalence of HIV and AIDS in the world and a large orphan population due to lowered life expectancy. The students will travel to schools, orphanages, and heath care clinics to educate Swaziland youth about HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, teach healthy lifestyle choices, and most importantly, offer hope to these children.

Upon their return to the United States, the students will be involved in a Speakers Bureau in Indianapolis to address the HIV and AIDS epidemic in their home-city. They will work with the media, participate in community events, and educate Indianapolis youth in an effort to lower the prevalence of HIV locally.

These six students have made a personal commitment to being leaders in their community. Please help support their work in Africa and Indianapolis by donating to their cause! The students are happy to meet with individuals or organizations to further explain this program and why they believe in it. They are very grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
