Jackie Cooke is one of the most caring and rock solid people i have ever met. Earlier this week she kicked down a burning gate to save some of her animals from perishing as her property, Jackieland, succumbed to the wildfire that swept through Monte Lake, BC and is still burning and threatening other communities.
Anyone who has ever met Jackie will not be surprised to hear that just days prior to losing her home, she had been handing out freezies to the firefighters working tirelessly to protect people's properties and farms. Jackie didn't have any insurance on her home or land, and is now camping with the 6 dogs she was able to rescue from the flames. Jackie would never ask for help, but she could use a bit these days as she figures out the next steps.
For anyone who doesn't know Jackie, here's a link to the film Darcy Henessey Turrenne made (Kristen, Henry and I helped!!) that we took to the Cannes Film Festival. (It was a lifelong dream of mine to attend that festival. Thanks Jackie!)
For anyone who wants to really dive into Jackieland, Darcy has released the never before seen Directors Cut (almost twice as long and way better) on vimeo for $4.99 and all proceeds from that go to Jackie. (Darcy and her and her husband are double-matching anything raised from that.) https://vimeo.com/ondemand/jackielanddirectorscut
The day after she lost everything Jackie was interviewed in the local media up there. Here's a news story that shows a bit of her shining character even as she was still reeling from a huge loss. https://www.castanetkamloops.net/news/Kamloops/342216/Fire-is-like-a-movie
Basically, Jackie fucking rules and if you are able to send some love, or funds, her way it will help one of my favourite people on earth get her feet back on the ground. She'd do it for you.
