Carolyn's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Carolyn has had quite the year. The list is long and the battles extensive. She asked me to write this because she just doesn't know what to say anymore and she's exhausted from fighting. So this is her story.

In April of this year, while already weathering a battle with her husband's thyroid cancer, Carolyn started feeling extremely ill. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. The doctor said it was stage 3 or 4 and that she would have a long and difficult battle ahead of her. Miraculously, when she went in for surgery, the cancer looked to be completely contained and was downgraded to stage 1. She was told that she would not even need chemo. There was still a lengthy recovery due to the extensive amount of her colon removed, during which time her husband Ken took FMLA time off of work to help her, after already using his paid time for his own cancer treatment.

Fast forward 4 months. Ken is notified that he is most likely going to be laid off from his job and is put on unpaid leave until final decisions are made. That same week, Carolyn goes in for her routine followup CT scan and bloodwork. After an additional PET scan, her liver is now full of malignant tumors, and it looks to be metastasized colon cancer. It is an aggressive, fast moving cancer. Carolyn is now fighting for her life and for time with her kids while waiting for a miracle from God. She and Ken are praying that his job will be reinstated so that they don't lose their income and insurance. They are already covered in medical bills from both having had cancer this year. They have 5 kids, including one with severe disabilities requiring constant care. They need help to make it through this season. More than anything, they need your prayers of agreement for her healing, peace, and blessings on their sweet children - it's been a very tough year for them as well.

Carolyn will be getting treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, while also pursuing alternative treatments, both of which are quite costly. If you are local and know Carolyn, she would also greatly appreciate gift cards to Whole Foods or Central Market where she can get organic produce.

She has also discovered that Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NY is doing some really exciting work with cancer patients with metastasis to the liver. She is going to contact them immediately to see when she can also get in there. It would involve continuing in the care of her oncologist here, but traveling monthly to NY as well.

The person who told her about it mentioned that they were often able to get airline miles donated for the monthly travel that would be required. Soooo, if any of her friends out there have airline miles to get her from Dallas to NYC, that would be a HUGE blessing....
