Hello Friends and Family,
On Wednesday December 9th, 2020 my mothers home in Wetaskiwin, Alberta caught fire. The fire took place on top floor of their home. Investigators are describing the event as a flash fire because of how short, quick and intense the fire was.
Thankfully neither my mom, Chantal Cutknife nor her partner Phil were home when the fire happened but their three dogs, Maggie, Dewie, Keishia, and cat Isabelle were inside the house. Thankfully all animals are safe and were found in the basement where the fire didn't reach.
When my mom and Phil came home from work my mom opened the front door and instantly felt the heat and smelled the thick smoke that was in their home. Phil rushed in to make sure the dogs and cat were alright and then proceeded to search the house to see if there was still an active fire. Phil inhaled a lot of smoke and has since been to the hospital to test for potential carbon monoxide poisoning. The entire first floor of their home is black and covered in soot and completely smoke damaged.
They were told to pack one bag each, to leave, and that their home is no longer inhabitable. My Mom and Phil have been renting this house in Wetaskiwin for over 10 years and have now essentially become homeless with four animals, the clothes on their backs, and one bag each of smoke damaged clothes.
It is a bit of an understatement to say that this could not have happened at THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME!!!
Losing your home during a global pandemic, in the middle of December, in central Alberta, is not how my family saw this holiday season going. Due to lockdowns in both Ontario and Alberta I am not able to go back home to Alberta to help my family through this extremely difficult time as I am living in Toronto.
So I am asking for help on behalf of my family to raise $4000.00 to help with emergency costs of hotels, food, and other associated costs while they try to find a new home and recover from this traumatic event.
