In the midst of a chaotic set and a missing actor, it’s up to the director to save her production.

Synopsis
On a low budget indie film set, Sigourney, an inexperienced director, learns just how chaotic film can be without proper preparations. Her desire to make a successful film is driven by a need to prove her mother wrong about filmmaking being a real job. The film is put to a screeching halt when Sigounrey learns they had sent their co-star to an abandoned lot instead of the correct location. Sigourney leaves the set to retrieve the second star - Elise - leaving Kurt, the 1st AD to run the set. Sigourney successfully retrieves Elise, returns to the set and redeems an almost failing production.

About Our Story
The story is about the complex relationship between Sigourney and her mother. Sigourney’s mother dreams of a job outside of the creative arts for Sigourney because she sees filmmaking as a joke. However, Sigourney is determined to create a name for herself. She doesn’t want to be a crowd follower, choosing the safe path in life. She aspires to be a filmmaker with her first film created and funded by a production company. The two can’t see eye to eye. We feel a lot of individuals in the film industry have their own version of this experience and have had to make a name for themselves on their own.

Director’s Statement
Hi my name is Grace Botting Harrison. I’m a lesbian identifying third year student at Centennial College in the Broadcasting & Film program.

I am the Director and writer of our team's short film “CUT!”

“CUT!” is my personal love letter to the chaotic world of indie/student film productions as well as speaking to those up and coming aspiring artists and filmmakers. The hardships of storytelling and how small mistakes can blow up with lack of communication. As well as how film is not widely accepted as a career choice as many arts are looked down on.

Producer’s Statement

My name is Ediri Obor, I’m the producer of the film “CUT!” Near and dear to my heart is anyone who dares to go in the direction of their dreams. That is exactly who the main character of this short film is. With this as my final semester film project, this story embodies the passion that has driven me and my colleagues to make films. In my time as a film student, I’ve come to truly understand the saying that filmmaking is a labour of love. It is because you put your heart, soul, and financial resources into something not because it’ll make you the most money. You do so because you absolutely must tell your story. Putting our all into this final student produced short film is evidence of our love for filmmaking. This story is simply one we must birth. Anyone who has stuck to a path regardless of outside opinion can undoubtedly relate to “CUT!”
