Cusi Wasi Orphanage- Clean H20

The first day we arrived to Kusi Wasi we will never forget the greeting we received from the kids.  The excitement, bliss, and joy was overwhelming. Kids with big dark eyes, and sunkissed skin, and dirty finger nails greeted us with love. A love of innocent children, a love that waivered on nothing, expected nothing and everythinng all at the same time. They were anxiously lined up ready to show us their park.

Over the past few days we have gotten into a rhythm where we arrive and within 15 minutes we line the kids up to go play at the local park, one block away. The kids race to find hands to be interlaced with theirs as they believe we are guiding them to the park but we know that in fact they are guiding us. To much more than a park. An afternoon where they teach us much more than playing but teach us love and joy even in an empty water bottle. The park is multi-purpose court shared by the local community.  There is no playground, just concrete and two basket ball hoops missing the nets.  The kids could not be more ecstatic to play.  After the park we take them back to wash their hands and set up their tables.  The eating area also serves as a living room, dance floor, and TV area.  Once all the plates are served we say a prayer in unison again we see that God sees no barrier, the prayer is said by all when some speak english, spanish and some that speak not at all. The kids begin to scarf down their food.  Following dinner they brush their teeth and get ready for bed. Beunos Noches echoes through every ounce of the house.

It would be unfair to paint a picture where the kids are not happy and exude joy.  In fact, Kusi Wasi is one of the happiest, most beautiful places on this earth because it is filled with kids who live each day to the fullest.  Despite their disabilities, limited clothes, food or tight quarters they live each day with a captivating joy.  Even the smallest gestures, like a hug from a volunteer makes them light up the entire room.

Despite the incredible love these kids have, over the past few days we have noticed there are several things that with some help from Family and Friends could make a huge difference on their quality of life.  We are setting up a Gofundme to help raise money for two major things:
1. Clean drinking water (We plan to provide them with a new filter)
2. Food

Over the last week we have noticed that our kids never have a drink, they drink the broth from the soup or the syrup from the purple corn. We have never once seen one our kids have a cup of water, a basic imperative need for life. Today a few of us left our water bottles out at the play ground, not much to our suprise did we find a few of them drinking from the bottles. The thirst in their eyes was evident.  We have also seen our kids fight over food, stealing it behind eachothers backs and going to bed hungry eyes spilling with tears.

Jesus said when I was thirsty you gave me something to drink and when I was hungry you fed me. When we serve the least of us we serve Jesus directly. Unfortunately we can't do this alone and any support you can provide will create a more sustainable life of joy and health for our kids. If you can't send monitary funds, please join us in prayer.
