Fire Recovery For The Dicksons

On December 9th, 2017 a day that started off normal would soon become the Dickson families worst day. While baking for friends and family Mary Joan heard what she thought was someone playing around but would soon learn it was her garage! Immediately 911 was called and she and the family pets got out of the house.  When they got outside her garage was completely engulfed in flames as was her van. The Cedar Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded promptly and began to put out the flames, however, this wasn't enough. On arrival, CLFD began to focus strictly on saving the house as the garage was gone. The blast from the garage explosion busted out some of the windows of the houses as well causing damage to the neighbor's house across the street. The fire was successfully contained and the house was saved! So what makes this a donation worthy cause? Mary Joan and her family are suffering from emotional and sentimental losses. The garage was not just a garage, to this family, it was a safe haven to the neighborhood, it was a place to hang out and get a nice meal to those who needed it. The Dickson family is currently involved in so many volunteer activities and spend so much time helping others they almost never have time for themselves! Mary Joan is currently the Advisor for the Hanover Central Key Club and a member of the local Kiwanis club. She serves her community via her church, American Legion Fish Frys and Volunteers with the Cedar Lake Summerfest. Her van is a vital use for her to travel. Her van was her mobile home as she basically lived in it because she was always all over helping others. With this go fund me we hope to get her funds to be able to afford a new vehicle by Christmas. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me to make this situation better for this great family!
