Curing Rosie's FIP

After wanting a kitten since I was a little girl, I finally had time and space to adopt one this August. Since I'm a teacher, I thought it would be the perfect time to bring a new kitty home and train her before school resumed in person. She got me through some incredibly difficult moments this fall, but these last two months it's been my turn to help her through. Rosie was diagnosed with FIP after being home with me for four months. FIP is a rare and fatal disease that kittens can get when a coronavirus mutates into an autoimmune disease, after the symptoms of the coronavirus dissipate. Once kittens show symptoms of FIP, they typically decline within a couple of days and need to be put down. Rosie was very close to dying in mid-December (at 7 months old). In a moment of desperation, I researched and discovered a Facebook group that connects people with a cure for FIP in the form of injections or tablets. I discussed my options with multiple veterinarians, all of whom were in favor of trying this treatment. Within days, I was in [joyful] tears over how incredibly effective this drug was; she was almost completely back to herself. After a crazy couple of months, Rosie is a month away from being out of the worst of FIP (the treatment lasts 84 days, then there is an 84-day observation period). Through the holidays and the beginning of the year, it was all I could do to keep my head down and help Rosie survive. Now that I have a bit of a grip, and am assessing the financial toll this has taken, I realize I need help to recover what little savings I had.
