Cure for Clayton

Donation protected
This is my nephew Clayton Hutchinson, he is the sweetest 4-year-old you will ever meet. His soul is soft and gentle and instantly brings a smile to everybody he meets. He is full of energy and life and enjoys sports, playing with friends and family, and building legos with his older sister Chloe.

On Monday, August 26, 2019 Clayton Hutchinson went in for his 4 year well check appointment.  Not surprising, he had grown 5 inches in a year and is now standing tall at 4 feet.  The check-up went very well. The only concern the doctor had was the bruises on his legs; but not necessarily an uncommon finding for an active 4-year-old boy.

Upon returning home, my younger brother, Trevor and his wife Michelle, Clayton's dad and mom, noticed that Clayton was becoming noticeably fatigued and had lost his appetite. Clayton napped and had become increasingly pale in the face over the next 48 hours. Michelle returned to the pediatrician where they did a quick blood test and then directed Michelle to take Clayton to Rady's Childrens Hospital in San Diego for further blood work.

That evening my brother received a call back regarding the blood results. He vividly remembers every word.

"I'm sorry to tell you this, but Clayton needs to return
to the emergency room as soon as you can. We believe
Clayton has Leukemia and the doctors at
the hospital are preparing for Clayton's arrival."

On Monday, September 1, four-year-old Clayton was officially diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).  On Tuesday he went into surgery to create a port in his chest that will serve as the route for his chemotherapy treatments. He also received his first chemo treatment in his spinal fluid, and they took bone marrow samples. This is first treatment in what is expected to be a 3 1/2-year medical plan for chemotherapy treatment.

As Trevor shared with me last week; “Life will never be the same for the Hutchinson family. While there are plenty of uncertainties on this long and unfamiliar journey, there is one sure thing; Clayton is a child of God, with a destiny for greatness.”

Trevor and Michelle are processing this news one day at a time. They are committed to getting Clayton the best care while also beginning to realize that the hospital is going to be their second home for the next few years. Clayton has a very long road to recovery ahead of him.

For those of you that know our brother he has always been generous to others. Michelle and Trevor give to others without expecting return and are the type of young family that you always hope to live next door.  We started this GoFundMe for their family to help cover the immense medical costs and rehabilitation costs ahead.

The Hutchinson’s are a family that can and have overcome some of life’s hardest obstacles, but we’ve learned we don’t succeed walking through hardship alone, so we are reaching out to our community to join us in this journey.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful prayers, words of encouragement, and considering financial support for Clayton.

God bless,

The Hutchinson Family

Only Clayton’s family will have access to these funds in relation to his medical process and bills. Any support offered will allow Trevor and Michelle the time and focus they need to best care for Clayton.
