Cure for Cait

Most of us would never imagine life would change in an instant. It was in mid June when Cait was leaning on her desk as a felt a pull on her side into her armpit. She started to feel around  then felt it. A huge lump the size of a walnut buried in the side of her breast. Cait’s always been healthy, she takes care of herself, is careful about the food she eats and is never sick. She had not seen a doctor since she was in high school! The idea of it being Cancer wasn’t even a thought. She was sure it was just a benign cyst that just needed to be removed. Still, she set up an appointment for a mammogram only to receive terrifying news. She said when she got the results she was stunned. Cait also felt the rush of panic wash over her as the doctor explained not only was it Cancer, it was a highly aggressive form and had progressed rapidly. She needed to start treatment immediately and would need surgery ASAP. There was no other option. Suddenly confronted with the reality that life be much shorter her mind raced to her beloved dogs and how broken hearted they would be without her. How would they manage? She thought about her girls and how they have had such a hard life before her, how would they deal with being moved again. How would Zach deal with possibly losing them. All she could think about was how life as it was would forever change for her loved ones and herself.

 

Having cancer changes the way you look at the world. It makes you afraid to make plans, never knowing if you will be able to do them. You never know how you will feel from one day to another. You can wake up feeling fine or you could be so run down you can’t leave your room. Cancer forces you to take everything one day at a time. It takes away your freedom to plan. It robs you or of your the basic dignity, and personal freedom.

 

              From the first day, Cait decided that she would beat this.

 

                                                 Cancer would not win!

 

                                   She took her life into her own hands.

 

Cait has spent the past 8 months not only fighting her own battle with Cancer but assisting others in their fight. She has always been one of the first to step up to the plate to aid others to help fund their battle, obtaining donations and assistance without hesitation but now she needs help funding her fight.

 

Our friend Cait has completely exhausted her personal funds and will soon be cut off of disability and the grants that assisted with expenses have run out completely. Eight months of treatment with residual side effects has left her unable to work and the expenses of chemo have drained her both emotionally and financially. walk the very shortest . Unfortunately, being an only child of parents that were only children there is literally no family to turn to for help.

 

 There are no other options available to her!  She is now facing the heart wrenching decision that no person should ever have to make: either continue life-saving treatment and lose her home only to face homelessness or stop treatments and hope the side effects wear off enough to be able to return to work and save her home at the risk of losing her life.

 

Being a renter, there is no option to re-finance or take out a second mortgage to get through this.  Both options of not being able to continue treatment and of losing her home are devastating.




Until now Cait has funded the bulk of the expense of treatment on her own. This is no longer possible. She unable to work due to losing the ability to walk anything but the shortest distance, loss of most of the feeling in her hands, as well as water build up around her heart. These issues will resolve with time but not soon enough. The additional stress due to finances is the last thing she needs while trying to heal from this disease! We want to build up funding to both complete her treatments and to keep the home that she and her dogs and love and need.
