Hugs for Jordan

Did you know that approximately 1 in 88 children have autism? The rate is even higher in boys, about 1 in 54.

So chances are you know someone who has autism or is directly involved with someone with autism.

And if not, then you do now:

Our sweet girl Jordan was diagnosed with Autism at age 4 in 2007. It was heartbreaking to hear those words "Your child has Autism" To this day I still cry when I think about it. This was absolutely life changing to our whole family. Everything was different from then on. Therapy became a way of life for all of us. Day in and day out we are thrown challenges that not too many families have to deal with.

This past year hasn't been as smooth as some of the others unfortunately.

Jordan she is now 5'6 and 125lb! So she is a big girl and she has just turned 11! Wow how the time flies. Her height and weight have been a bit of a problem with some of the recent behaviors that have come up. As she gets older she has become extremely aggressive.  This has been a BIG stress on our family as it's emotionally and physically hard. (It has been about the most stressful thing other than financially that we have EVER had to deal with. Over the winter we had to shave her head as she started to pull her hair out in the summer and it's a behavior we couldn't control. I know it's just hair but for some reason it was very difficult to handle. We are in the process of trying to figure this aggression, but the treatment for Autism isn't meshed up in the system very well and has been a bit difficult to navigate.. We need to help her and help the family, but for now, we have our head down and are just trying to deal.

Jordan’s therapy is quite costly, which has put many years of financial strain on our family. Speech, Occupational therapy, ABA ……. With VERY little if any covered by government.

It’s estimated that families with children on the spectrum pay up to $50,000 a year in therapy. Jordan also attends a private Autism school in hopes that we can give her the best tools for the future

Thank you
