Healing for Healy

For those of you that don't know, this is Healy...Our handsome, energetic, never-would-know-he-was-nine-years-old Beagle/Lab mix. He has had a love for life – and an unconditional love for us – since he joined our family at five weeks old.
We rescued him from an unethical euthanasia back in 2004 – and this weekend we chose to put off euthanasia one more time and again give him a chance at life…please keep reading to find out how you can help…
On Friday, August 8 we took Healy to the veterinarian because of a progressive cough and found ourselves, several hours later, leaving him overnight at the emergency clinic with a life-threatening pericardial effusion (fluid around his heart).
Doctors at both clinics could not believe our dog was even alive, never mind walking around wagging his tail. His underlying condition is idiopathic (we may never know the reason) but the recurrent fluid build-up forced a tough decision…
...move forward with an incredibly risky and invasive surgery, or euthanize. After weighing our decision heavily, we decided that we had to give him the chance to continue defying the odds – even if things did not have a happy ending – we owed him at least that.
Having made it through the surgery, Healy is currently resting comfortably and is being cared for by the amazing staff at the emergency clinic. We hope to have him home in a couple of days to begin his several weeks of recovery.
Although we do not regret our decision, the medical bills are piling up. We chose to spend the money, but are asking for your generosity in helping us to recover financially as Healy recovers physically.
We know some of you will not understand how we could justify spending thousands of dollars on a “dog”. But we also know there are other pet parents out there that will know why we had to give our FAMILY MEMBER at least a fighting chance. We can never repay your generosity, but we promise to pay it forward when given the chance.
