Dear Family and Friends!
My name is Brenda Saddler. I hate to ask for help, but my daughter and I have exhausted ourselves trying to come up with rent money and are totally out of options. My daughter has a vision disability and only has sight in one eye. She applied for Disability, but was rejected, the reason given was that she could work with partial vision. During the last (2) two years she has tried her best to gain employment, but with no positive results. In the past she has served as an Assistant Professor at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. and a Researcher at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Tonya also holds an earned Ph. D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Despite the depth of her experience and exhaustive efforts, she has not been able to get a job. I am 70+ years old, a retired Educator of 28 (twenty-eight) years in Virginia and suffer from multiple medical problems. To supplement my small income, I have worked several short term jobs including working as a babysitter and a tutor.
Now, we have run out of options to pay our rent. Without assistance we are facing eviction the end of September. We are currently living in a 2-bedroom apartment where the rent is over $1,000 a month plus utilities. For the long haul, we are in the process of restructuring our finances and making some difficult decisions about where to move and about downsizing. In the short term, our goal is to raise $5,000 to give us some breathing room while we work out the restructuring and downsizing.
