Volunteer Trip

Dear Family and Friends,

After 18 months of living and working in New York City I have decide to break from my life as an Astoria resident, Manhattan commuter, SAT tutor and weekend pizza server to pursue a lifelong calling to volunteer abroad. I have enrolled in a volunteer program through International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ) where I will spend time serving the less fortune in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. Most of September and October will be spent working in Cartagena, a charming coastal colonial city, volunteering and immerse myself in an exciting new culture. Colombia is recovering from many years of civil unrest and for the past decade has been showing signs of political stability and economic growth, even welcoming tourism. Within this growth the non-profit and international communities have stepped in to assist the people of Colombia and help is needed. My time will be spent working within a number of different programs ranging from feeding the homeless, working with young mothers and even community renovation projects. I know I can make an impact even in my short stay in Cartagena but I also know that this experience with give me an entirely new outlook and appreciation for my own life. Funds are needed to help cover program costs, vaccination fees, and accommodations. Thank you all for your constant love and interest in my life and your support is the most appreciated.
