Csala & Dan's Clinical Trial

Donación protegida
Most people know about the unique situation that my sister and her husband are in. However, for those who don't know, here is one of the craziest stories you will ever read about.

Csala met her husband, Dan in 2005. Dan was paralyzed and in a wheelchair due to a motorcycle accident in 2002. The two of them hit it off right away, and were engaged in April 2007, however they waited to get married so Csala could finish pursuing her college degree in Elementary and Special Education, which she finished in 2011. After which, they purchased their home in 2012 and finally got married in 2013. They were on their way to happily ever after when tragedy struck again.

On February 1, 2015, Csala was in a serious car accident that resulted in her also being paralyzed and in a wheelchair. As if that isn't crazy enough, her accident happened on the same road as Dan's accident, 3/10th’s
of a mile apart. The same road they live on!

Csala spent 2 months at Good Shepherd Rehab Hospital, with Dan by her side every day. While there she worked hard to get stronger physically and mentally to deal with their new way of life. Now two wheelchairs in the house, two vehicles that would need to be equipped, etc. Even with that daunting future ahead, they persevered and learned how to make it work. With help from family and friends they continued to live their lives to the fullest.

Which is why we're are asking for your help. Csala and Dan have both been accepted into a clinical trial, being conducted at The College of Staten Island. It is a non-invasive trial, so thankfully they will not have to undergo surgery. The purpose of this research study is to understand how the nervous system responds following stimulation of the spine and brain at rest and during walking assisted by robotic device (Lokomat). The trial runs from March 8- April 19, 2018. However, in order to participate in the 7-week trial, they must stay in New York every day. With the both of them on a limited income; paying for housing, food, gas, and other expenses is way out of their budget.

Any little way you could help would be greatly appreciated. If you can't donate, we just ask that you share their story and link to the GoFundMe page. Thank you so much for all your help. Please remember to send them your prayers and good thoughts during the trial. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
