We are reaching out for support. One of our Faribault Middle School students was severely hurt in an accident and her family needs our help.
On Tuesday, October 17 at 7:23 am, Faribault officers were dispatched to a crash at 2nd Avenue NW and 8th Street NW involving a pedestrian. Responding units found a 13-year-old female, Lul Ahmed, who was conscious but incoherent. She was transported to the local hospital and later airlifted to HCMC. Lul had been crossing 2nd Avenue NW at 8th Street NW, utilizing the crosswalk to get on the school bus. Several vehicles, both northbound and southbound, had stopped to allow her to cross. A 1998 Lincoln Navigator was northbound and had passed the stopped vehicles on the right side and struck the Lul as she was in the crosswalk.
Lul sustained injuries that will affect her for the rest of her life including a Traumatic Brain Injury. Her hospitalization has put an emotional and financial burden on the family. Lul's father, Ali Ahmed, has been missing work to drive to the Minneapolis hospital every day where his daughter is being treated. This has caused an increase in incurred expenses.
Lul will be coming home from the hospital soon which is great news! She will need to have regular therapy appointments as part of her recovery which will continue to cause her father to miss work.
Lul is in a wheelchair. The family will need to make their home handicap ready for Lul's return which is another financial strain on the family.
Any help we can give the Ahmed family is greatly appreciated. The family needs help with bills, daily expenses, medical expenses, gas, etc.
We are also working on setting up a fundraiser for the family. Thank you for your help and support of Lul and her family!
