Family and Friends releasing balloons (with messages) in Cody's honor.
Cody E. Bilbrey-Nickless, 17, of Hernando, Florida, passed away on July 22, 2014 in an accidental spear fishing accident. The medical examiner has labeled his death as an accidental drowning - possibly due to a malfunctioning hookah rig or shallow water blackout. Cody's best friend (also 17) was on the fishing boat along with a few other fishermen who worked tirelessly to revive Cody.
Cody was a 2014 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Citrus High School. He had been accepted into the U.S. Navy in particular the Nuclear Power Program, and was scheduled to report for duty 29 days before his passing. There was nothing more that Cody loved than his family, spear fishing and anything outdoors. Survivors include his parents, Daniel and Heather Carmichael of Hernando; sisters, Cierra, 16; Chesney, 11; and Caylee 8; of Hernando; grandparents, Sissy and Wayne Carmichael and Charles and Linda Bowen.
Cody had a passion for life like no other. He knew how to make you smile when you had a frown, giggle when you wanted to cry, and motivate when you wanted to give up. He spent every free moment he had this past summer babysitting his little sisters, Chesney and Caylee. He made sure that he had the opportunity to make as many memories he could with them before leaving for the Navy. He loved his family like no other - and once you became a friend of Cody's - you became FAMILY.
Cody's family and friends have been devastated by the loss of such a fantastic young man. The medical bills from his ambulance trip, medical care and subsequent memorial are adding up quickly. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Shallow Water Blackout: Shallow water blackout is a loss of consciousness caused by cerebral hypoxia towards the end of a breath-hold dive in water typically shallower than five metres (16 feet), when the swimmer does not necessarily experience an urgent need to breathe and has no other obvious medical condition that might have caused it.
