Help Lisa Crush Cancer :)

My beautiful sister, Lisa, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on December 31, 2013 after several months of trying to figure out the cause of her severe abdominal pain. A new year and six grueling rounds of chemotherapy later, she is currently in remission and anxiously awaiting the results of her most recent PET scan.

Anyone who has been following Lisa's story knows that she has fought her battle very publicly and with an INCREDIBLE amount of grace. My family and I can't thank all of you enough for all of your thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes during what has been a very painful and scary time. (And to her loving boyfriend Wes and his family: thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!) 

As public as her fight against lymphoma has been, there are a few darker realities that Lisa hasn't openly shared with the majority of you. Although she has health insurance, the costs for her care have drastically increased and she missed a lot of time at work while undergoing treatment. Now she's left with a huge stack of bills. I know she's been doing the best she can to keep her head above water (while at the same time gracefully crushing cancer!), but I think it's time to reach out to our friends and family and ask for some help. The other night, Lisa told me that even though she's currently in remission, she doesn't actually feel cancer-free because she is overwhelmed with medical bills.

Cancer is a terrifying and uncertain thing and Lisa still has a long road ahead of her. If you're able to, please join me and my family in our attempt to alleviate the burden of her medical debt so she can focus on healing and moving forward. (Personally, I like to picture my sister finally getting back to baking the most wonderful cakes and cookies you could ever imagine!)
