A Special Adoption

Donation protected
Before we ever started dating, we knew adoption would be part of our family. We didn’t know how, or what it would look like… but it was a calling we eagerly embraced.

A couple years into marriage we welcomed a happy and healthy biological son. A couple years later it was a beautiful daughter. But, Ruthie was born with severe health issues. Problems so severe, she passed away after a far to short 112 days. That experience changed our lives in so many ways. For one, it directed a career path that would lead to Pediatric ICU nursing with a specialty in Pediatric Hospice care. And it forever transformed ideas about what “type” of child we could welcome into our family.

A short time later we entered the unknown (and intimidating!) world of international adoption with a slant: Special needs kids. After a mountain of paperwork and what felt like a bazillion other bits and pieces we traveled to an Asian country to bring home our precious daughter.

While there (because this is how we roll!) we met another precious little girl who, also, had some pretty intense medical needs – and we knew she was ours too. So, more paperwork, more home visits, more money, more time... but, every bit worth it as we brought our beautiful new daughter home too.

Add another biological son to the mix… and all the kids are thriving and we are happy and oh so blessed – but you see… there’s one more young girl. This one a bit older, also international and also with a physical obstacle: blindness.

We know she is meant for us. Living her days in an orphanage in a country where children with physical challenges are considered worthless – she remains smart, upbeat and hopeful. We want her home. We know she deserves a chance at life… and we want to be her forever family.

We are so fortunate that because we’ve done this before and are working with the same agencies, some of the high costs of adoption have been waived or delayed. Still we are in the thick of paperwork and home visits and putting away money for this adoption.

We know because of the high cost of this unique situation we will need around $25,000 additional to cross all the hurdles... Yes, we are putting our heart on the line because the foreign government could halt the entire process in a heartbeat. But we are not giving up. Love is always worth the risk.

We are asking for your help in bringing our beautiful daughter home – at giving her a chance in life… and giving us a more complete and blessed family.

P.S. If the foreign government blocks this adoption, any funds raised will be donated to the orphanage that focuses on abandoned children with special needs. If you have specific questions, email me and I will be happy to answer. Apologies for all the secrecy, but sharing any more info could slow the already lengthy adoption process.
