Crystian's Memorial and Hospital Fund

Family and Friends please stand with Dwayne and I in ongoing prayer!!!

Crystian Jean Fletcher is a three month old baby boy who was born with a congenital heart defect and a solitary kidney.  Crystian encountered his first open heart surgery on May 2, 2019 at nine days old. After surgery, the doctors tried to wean him off oxygen support but they couldn't because they later learned that his air way to his left lung was under developed (known as narrow bronchitis). Having to live on oxygen support for a while, we were later told that we would eventually have to fly him to Cincinnati Children's hospital to have reconstructive surgery on his lung. As Crystian was beginning to heal from his first surgery, the doctors decided to do an echo which showed that his lung on the right side wasn't getting enough blood flow and that his veins were narrow (also known as pulmonary vein stenosis). This resulted in the doctors having to take Crystian in for his second open heart surgery on June 26, 2019. As time progressed Crystian continued to have episodes where his oxygen levels would drop rapidly resulting in him not being able to breath properly for hours. As a result, Crystian was scheduled to get a tracheostomy and a Gtube on July 30, 2019, but because his desaturation episodes became so frequent they decided to postpone because they thought he had an infection which resulted in them doing another echo in the days following which showed he needed another heart surgery.
Therefore, on August 6, 2019 the doctors took Crystian to the Cardiac Cath Lab because he was in need of a third open heart surgery. The news that came out of that visit to the lab was not good because it showed that Crystian no longer had function of his right lung and that his second lung veins were starting to narrow.  Over time this would cause him to lose function of his left lung. It also showed that he had severe regurgitation out of his aortic valve. So with all of the things Crystian has going on internally we are sure he would not survive another major surgery.  Moreover, Crystian's dad and I have made the hard decision to stop his medical care treatments. Our son has fought a hard fight and should not have to continue to experience extreme trauma to his precious little body. Dwayne and I have decided that we are going to spend as much time with Crystian as we possibly can before he is called home to be with God and his grannies and other immediate family. I'm glad  that his medical team has and will continue to take care of him.  This is hard to do and we know that many people may not understand our decision and it is okay as we are asking God to guide our minds and our hearts as we are dealing with this. To relieve the added stress of how we will go on with life and face the obstacles that lie ahead Dwayne and I are asking for donations from family and friends to cover his memorial service and the outstanding medical bills we have accrued during this time. Please know that any financial support you are willing to provide during this very difficult time is truly appreciated! Grateful and Prayerful--Crystal and Dwayne
