Help Crystal Defeat Rare Cancer

Donation protected
Crystal has endured many health battles throughout her young life, but this most recent battle has taken a toll on her. It all began in 2013, she had a trip and fall. As a result, she fractured her shoulder, hip and broke her knee. The hospital personnel could not understand how she sustained such injuries from just a trip. After diagnostic testing it was determined she had hypercalcemia due to a tumor on the parathyroid, which was benign, thank God. This was when she had her first surgery of 4 relating to this condition. Fast forward 3 years, 2016, she started to develop symptoms of hypercalcemia again. She had 2 exploratory surgeries at the beginning of the year, she was never given results from these surgeries and she continued to feel sick. At the end of 2016, she decided to go to the county hospital, once again she had surgery, and this is when she was diagnosed with parathyroid cancer. Parathyroid cancer is a rare cancer, especially for her age. But even after this surgery she continued to feel sick. This is when her endocrinologist decided that the best thing for her would be to seek treatment at MD Anderson. Her endocrinologist told us that she has only come across a similar case one other time in her career. The Dr. stated that there isn’t a doctor in El Paso who can perform the surgery that my sister needs (with experience). Since she has already undergone 4 surgeries, we would want her to go with a doctor who is experienced with this type of disease/surgery. The endocrinologist stated there is a doctor that she knows and trust to perform such procedure in Houston at MD Anderson. As much as the family wants her to get treated at MD Anderson, it doesn’t seem possible because this facility is not covered by her insurance. In the mean time she is in and out of the hospital due to elevated blood calcium levels (critical at times). They stabilize her (bring her calcium level down to “normal” range) but the underlying problems is still there, the cancer. She is not getting any other treatment for her condition, as surgery is the only option according to her doctor. She is anemic, has nausea and vomiting and due to the nausea/vomiting she is unable to eat or keep anything down. She has lost 8 lbs. in the last week.  She is taking medication for her nausea/vomiting, but it does not help her. She is deteriorating as we sit here on the sidelines watching. My sister still has her whole life ahead of her. Her babies need her. In fact, I cannot picture my life without her. She is my baby sister and I love her dearly. I ask that you please help me raise money to help her seek the treatment she needs. Please share this go fund me page with your family and friends. I’m not sure as to how much she will need and maybe my goal is not even a drop in the bucket, but we got to start somewhere. I really appreciate every donation big and small. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
